It is quite an honor to have Steve Matthiasson and Jill Klein Matthiasson lead a class at The Pip.  Both Steve and Jill are extraordinarily knowledgeable about so much having to do with farming:  from soil types, organic farming, native plants, international grapes, winemaking to preparing food from the garden and orchard. For our class, the main thread will be their philosophy on organic farming and winemaking and of course, we’ll taste several of their wines.  This is an incredible opportunity to learn from the leaders and taste their phenomenal, benchmark Napa wines.

OoooOoooOOooooOOOooh! YESSSSSSSS! Join some fabulous women and sip Lorenza Rose wine poolside all day for our ‘second annual’ Rose All Day!

We celebrate at our favorite North Pool (adults only) at Cache Creek. We have private cabanas reserved all day for a shady respite and a place to safely store your purse/bags. Relax in a lounge chair, sit and chat in the cabanas, read in the hot tub or frolic in the pool. Make new friends or rest and sip in quiet. We'll be there until dusk.

Our group enjoys the privileges of the North Pool (w/out having to rent a room or book a spa service).  Rose wine served by our private bartender (noone counts how many glasses...), lunch AND the company of some awesome women. Youbetcha this is a LADIES ONLY (over 21) EVENT.

For your convenience Cache Creek has a shuttle service that picks up and drops off in Vacaville if you can’t stay.  Call 707-742-0266 for the Vacaville schedule.

In celebration of someone’s milestone birthday [no numbers mentioned, but it’s half a century] we’re going to bust open some of our big bottles.  Yup, that means the really, big, big bottle too! 

And what goes with big bottles?  Big burgers – and not those little ones you’re used to.  Chef Hank will be flipping lamb burgers out back.*

This is a big birthday so it needs a big celebration, because we all know a Pip who likes to go big.  Come on down between 4 – 6 and join in the frolicking, frenzy of folks fêting our fearless leader, cuz it’s her big 5-0!!!!!

WOW!  What a treat.  It’s been a dream of ours to highlight Kenny’s wines.  Amy worked with the wines in pre-Pip days and we’ve had a few of his wines off and on but now is the time for THE BIG ONE.

Please join us in welcoming winemakers Kenny Likitprakong and his partner, Lynn Wheeler, to The Pip to taste through five of their wines.  The wines will speak for themselves but let us wax poetic about Kenny & Lynn.  First of all, they do the right things for the right reasons.  They walk the walk.  They work closely with their farmers.  They support their community in a multitude of ways.  They are family oriented.  They make fabulous wines!  Their fabulous wines are incredibly affordable.  They OVERDELIVER, in so many ways.

Have a grip on the basics of wine tasting but want to experience a more focused tasting and discussion with others?

Join us for “Taste More!”

We’ll revisit the aroma wheel and how it can help us find the right words for what we’re smelling and tasting. Then we’ll do a deeper dive into comparing two different styles of the same varietal (i.e. two Chardonnays, two Tempranillos, etc.). Engage your senses as you swirl, sniff, and sip, deciphering AND describing the intricate relationship between fruit, oak, acidity and terroir.

Whether you're a novice or a seasoned enthusiast eager to deepen your understanding, our in-depth wine tasting class offers an experience that transcends the ordinary. Join us and uncork the magic that lies within each glass, as we celebrate the timeless allure of wine and the boundless joy it brings to our lives. Cheers!

Tickets are $60pp.

Winemaker Tasting: Villa Papiano

Ciao!  Please join us in welcoming Francesco Bordini of Villa Papiano in Modigliana, Italy, to The Pip.

Villa Papiano lives in the region of Emilia-Romagna in Italy the land of Parmesan-Reggiano cheese, lasagna & Ferrari . The winery is named after Lieutenant Papiano who served in Medici’s army in the 15th century.  The vineyards are planted between 450-540m elevation on ancient sandstone soils which yields savory, bright and juicy wines. 

 Francesco is a Consultant Winemaker for 15 different estates in Emilia Romagna and is acknowledged as one of the foremost experts of Romagna’s wines.  His philosophy focuses on an “invisible hand” – a non-interventionist approach with the utmost respect for the varietal character and local terroir.

We will taste five selections from Villa Papiano – a vermouth (in a simple cocktail), three Sangiovese wines and a Centesimino.  Of course we’ll also have small snacks to enhance the wine experience.

Tickets are $55pp.

Pets and Vets Family Portraits

To recognize our veterans and active military families, The Pip is offering a “Pets and Vets” Family portrait in honor of Veterans Day.

To quote Dr. Temple Grandin, “Animals Make Us Human.”

Pets provide so much joy, therapy, comfort, and grounding that we would like to celebrate them alongside their families.

Veteran and active military families are invited to sign up for a pet & family portrait session with a professional photographer. Appointments are available on two days in 30 minute blocks: Saturday, 11/11 from 9am to 1pm and Sunday, 11/12 from 9am to 12noon. Chose from an indoor or outdoor seating; each session is 20 minutes..  2-3 digital images will be emailed to the family within a week.  There is no cost to our veteran and military families.  Thank you for your service.

Please consider:

  • This event is for U.S. veterans and U.S. active military

  • The family portrait is for immediate family (same household), up to 6 people + pets (pets must be present)

  • Entrance for indoor portraits will be the front door; entrance for outdoor portraits will be through the alley behind The Pip

  • Leashes/harnesses are required for all pets

  • For best results and out of respect for the photographers

    • Please exercise your pet(s) before the photo session

    • Allow adequate potty time

We’re headed to the Foothills!  We’ll start at Terre Rouge Winery – one of Wine & Spirits Top 100 Wineries in 2023 – and enjoy tasting through some award winning Syrahs, Zinfandels and a few other rare goodies.  Winemaker and Co-Owner Bill Easton started his wine career in Berkeley where he opened a small, boutique wine shop called Solano Cellars.  He now has a great reputation in the wine world as a champion of the foothills terroir – he’s been making great wines from this under-represented region since the 1980’s.

We’ll enjoy a boxed lunch at the picnic tables after we taste the wines at Terre Rouge.

 Then we head over to Casino Mine Ranch tasting room. The wines are just as exquisite as the views.  We’ll taste through a handful of Casino Mine Ranch wines that have an impressive pedigree not only for the terroir but also the winemaking.  The consulting winemaker is Andy Erickson.  He is best known for making Screaming Eagle, Harlan and Staglin Wines. Assistant Winemaker Jessica Tarpy Shaheen has been working with Andy on multiple projects, including Casino Mine Ranch, for nearly a decade.

We’ll meet at the Terre Rouge Winery and begin our tasting at 11:00am.  After the tasting we’ll enjoy lunch and then schimmy over to the Casino Mine Ranch Tasting Room (it’s about 5 minutes away) for our 2:00 tasting appointment.

The ticket price of $90pp includes the two winery tastings, lunch and gratuities.

Pizza Night!

Chef Jodie slings the BEST pies! And of course, we serve some pretty awesome beer on draft and wine….

Pizza Night is a little different than our normal schtick. Chef Jodie sets up her pizza station outside, behind The Pip, we open up the curtains from front to back and become a pizza hall with seating inside and outside (weather permitting). We have our regular beer on tap, wine slushies and offer a simple & tasty wine menu made up of 5 wines (we do not serve our regular menu on Pizza Nights). Chef Jodie creates her pizza menu and takes payment for pizza; we manage all things beverage. Pizza Night has it’s own, groovy vibe.

YES! the Pizza is available for take-out. Come in, order your pizza with Jodie & have a drink while you wait!

No reservations necessary. We are happy to take reservations on groups of 8 people or more.
